Free PS Elements: Calendar in Elements

Version: Photoshop Elements 4.0

level: easy

Summer’s gone and we’ve taken loads of new photographs. The year’s end is drawing close, so you’d do well to think of next year’s calendars well on time. Now, new photos fit the new year nicely— let’s make a calendar! You don’t have to prepare a full-year calendar, but discuss this later.

1.Preparations
Calendars differ in every country. Not only holidays are different, but e.g. the first day of the week (Sunday in the US, Monday in most European countries). Before you start, you must set the calendar options in Elements. Luckily, you only need to do it once.

Click Edit/Preferences/Calendar in Organizer.

2. Start of the week
If you want the week to start with Monday, select Use Monday as first day of the week.

In the list below, you can specify which holidays to display. The program is US made, and unfortunately contains only US holidays. At least you can switch off those you don’t want, and you can add new items by clicking New under Events.

Type the name into the Event name field—this way you can even rename the holidays to your native language. Next, enter the exact date. You can, for example, enter all those big parties you already have planned into next year’s calendar.

Add all the events and holidays you want. Pay special heed to moving dates like Easter or Pentecost.

When you’re done, you can start assembling the calendar.

3. Choose the photos
Normally you have to select 12 images (maybe an additional one for the cover) for a full-year calendar, But you don’t need to do so.
It may sound strange, but the most difficult part is to select a meager 13 out of several thousand pictures. You needn’t worry, you may change the images and their sequence later.

Click Create.

4. Getting to it
Select Calendar Pages on the dialog and click OK.

You can select the calendar type in the right pane in the new window. You can specify starting and ending date in the lower left corner under Options, and this is the place to set up a Title Page or Captions. Now click Next Step.

5. All in a row
This is where you can set up the sequence of the pictures. Simply drag them to the place you want. This way you can assign them to months.
Add Photos and Remove Photo help to rearrange your image pool. If you want to include a photo multiple times, click Use Photo Again.

Click Next Step if you’re done setting up everything.

6. Customized
Set up the size and position of the images as well as captions.
Click the picture to resize it, or click the text under it to add or change the caption.

Click Next Step if you’re done setting up everything.

7. A Happy End
All you have left to do is to save the calendar. Name it and click Save to progress to the last dialog. You can save the calendar as a PDF file, print it immediately or send it in an e-mail.

There you go, your own calendar. Happy tinkering!
